Firstly, I am not criticising, Messenger is great and sure that
many many people make good use of it, and so far I have not come
    across any major problems.

There is still the option "Activities" which gives the possibility
of Whiteboard, Remote Assistance and File Sharing. When any of
these options are selected an error message returns saying that
you need a up to date version on WINDOWS Messenger! I would have
expected that either these options were made to work within
version 8 or removed altogether. If neither are considered
appropriate, would it be advisable to make it clearer that you
need to obtain an up date to the WINDOWS Messenger in order that
these functions can work? In any event it does seem strange the
beta version does not make some allowance for this. In addition
the Games option continues to say the list is temporarily
    unavailable.

    Hi

I know what you're saying about the activities, don'w know why they have
done that might be improving it in the next build.

About the Games the reason it's not working it's dure to your firewall, if
you have Nortons then remove port 80 from the otions in the firewall
settings because that worked for me

It can't be due to Nortons as why that isn't working. I'm on dailup and
do have the Windows Firewall on but don't have Norton anything
installed, and get no games showing up (nor tabs for that matter). Even
if I turn the Firewall off they fail to show up.
I couldn't figure out how in Windows firewall to specifically remove
    port 80.

    Hi Wayne

Trying adding the port to Windows Firewall see if that works, Do you have
    another firewall other than Nortons?
Also try unistalling it and reinstalling WLM/Msn Messenger

There have been some issues with Logitech webcams if you have one?

  5. Greetings Alan,

The reason why these require Windows Messenger goes back to when XP was being developed. At
that time, Windows Messenger was considered THE "Messenger client" for XP. As such, these
components (which are part of Windows), make use of the Windows Messenger API for their
    function.

It wasn't until 2002 that the decision to split the products was made.

What needs to happen is code changes to these components themselves. Unfortunately, the
Windows group needs to do this and the Messenger team cannot just start changing Windows
    components.

Apparently this will be "fixed in Vista".
