AD from 2000 to 2003 - What about DFS domain-based roots migration

Discussion in 'Active Directory' started by Johnny Figueroa, Apr 9, 2005.

  1. How to migrate our DFS roots from 2000 DCs to 2003 DCs?

    1) Our DFS root is domain-based and it points to SERVER1 and SERVER2. These
2000 DC servers are going to go away and replaced by the newly built 2003
DCs. Is it as simple as assigning a couple of more 2003 DC root targets and
removing SERVER1 and SERVER2? Any procedure, article, etc around this process
    is appreciated.

    2) One of our steps is going to be to steal/SWAP the IPs of SERVER1 and
SERVER2 for the 2003 DCs. This is because these servers are the primary and
secondary DNS servers specified to all of our clients. Any issues with also
    stealing the hostname?

    Thanks in advance
