AD state and dns windows2003r2x64

    Sorry I reread your post and am confused.

    Must the dns server have itseld as a dns server in the dns tab on the
    network interface?

    Preferrably, yes. It is not just that it is a DNS server, it is DC, and it
    must always have a DNS server available to it. In case the other DC/DNS
    servers are unavailable.
    I am not saying it should only point to itself, I'm saying it should point
    to itself in addition to the other DCs.
