Additional domain controller > Domain controller

Discussion in 'Windows Small Business Server' started by Pascoal Aita Neto, Apr 1, 2004.

  1. My system is:

Server DOMAIN CONTROLLER (SBS2000) configured of the following form:
    PENTIUM III 1 GB+1GB RAM+3 HD 18GB RAID 5
    WINDOWS 2000 - SP4+HOTFIX
    EXCHANGE SERVER 2000 - SP3+ROLLUP+HOTFIX
    ISA SERVER 2000 - SP1+FP1+HOTFIX

Server ADDITIONAL DOMAIN CONTROLLER (WINDOWS 2000) configured of the
    following form:
    PENTIUM III 550 MHZ+512 MB+3 HB 18 GB RAID 5
    WINDOWS 2000 - SP4+HOTFIX

    4 clients with WINDOWS XP.

I go to disactivate Server DOMAIN CONTROLLER.

It would like to promote server ADDITIONAL DOMAIN CONTROLLER for DOMAIN
    CONTROLLER.

After this procedure I will go to install the EXCHANGE SERVER 2000 in this
    server.

Exists some procedure that can be used to make this migration?

    I thank contributions.

There are several ways to do what you what to do,

You can install the new server and DCPROMO it and join the existing domain.
    Install Exchange on it.
Then use the move mailbox wizard in Active Directory Users and Computers to
move the mailboxes from the old server to the new one.

You would move any public folders from the old Exchange Server to the new
    one.

Then you would uninstall Exchange from the old server and run dcpromo and
    demote that server.

Once the server is demoted you can safely get rid of it.
