When I try to run Windows Update on a laptop with Windows
ME, Windows Update gives me the error
message "Administrators Only", and all the stuff below
tells about what to do if I have Windows 2000 or Windows
XP. But this laptop has Windows ME! Why is it giving me
a stupid error message for a completely different
operating system? It doesn't even realize the computer
has ME instead of 2000 or XP, and gives the totally absurd
message "Administrators Only"! Administrators don't even
exist in WinME! And I can't upgrade it to XP since it
only has 32 megs of RAM, and not much hard disk space.
Windows Update used to work back when it was the older
version of Windows Update (I think 3.1) but it has not
worked ever since they changed everything to v4 of Windows
Update. I hope I don't have to reinstall Windows ME just
to fix this stupid bug in Windows Update.

    Rich,

Do you get a prompt for a Windows logon at startup and , leaving the
username and password blank, click Cancel or OK ?
    If so, try this :

    Startup
