always ask before opening this type of file

Discussion in 'Windows Small Business Server' started by William (Bill) C. Earl, Oct 23, 2004.

  1. We have a 2003 install with a mapped drive to a share. When try to run exe
from this share get "always ask before opening this type of file". Can't
seem to find where the security setting for this is. Would like to set so
that this particular exe file has the rights to be ran without being asked
    this question.

Any direction would greatly be appreciated.

    Regards

    I hope this helps

CAUSE: This issue was occurring because the Target path for the shortcut
    referenced
    a mapped drive letter (P:\filename.exe).

RESOLUTION: We changed Target for the shortcut to point to the UNC name for
    the
server (\\server\share\filename.exe) and share and the .exe would then open
    fine
without prompting with the Open/Save dialog.

  3. Doug,

Thanks for the response, You can fool it a couple of ways, the way you
suggested and also pointing the target path to the direct path on
c:\xxxxx\xxxx.exe however, what I would like to know is where in the security
policies this is controlled so we don't have toworry about tricking it.

    Regards
