Microsoft is beyond beta for Windows Vista. The latest release candidate, Vista RC2 build 5744, is supposed to be good enough to hand over to hardware manufacturers so that they can start building systems around it in advance of the OS's launch. We loaded up RC2 and unfortunately encountered numerous minor graphical glitches and a missing feature. So we expect to see at least one more interim build and perhaps even another release candidate, if Microsoft is to stay on schedule. For a look inside, see our First Take.

Vista is due to RTM next week. There will not be any more builds released to the outside unless TAP gets a final release this week.

Well that article looks like a push from the manufacturers to get another release candidate build. I wonder if MSFT will do that.
