I would like to know if there is a way to log onto messenger and appear
offline automatically. Is there a way to configure messenger to do this or
do i have to do it manually everytime.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello,
normally with Windows Live Messenger, you have the choice to automatically
and always log-on with a certain status and there, you can choose "Appear
    Offline".
To set this function, start Live Messenger (or sign out if you are signed
in), and on the sign in window, choose "Sign in as..." -> Appear Offline.

(I don't know for sure if MSN Messenger has the function to set Appear
Offline as an always login status, but Live Messenger definitely has it.)
