    Hi Jonathan,

I got the same error message since a couple of days ago.
Without doing anything, it went away all by itself.
I thought that you (as well as other people concerned) might want to know
    about this.

I have answered this to other questions about this error as well (sorry for
cross-posting if that was the case).

  3. Hi Geo,

Yeah you're not the only one -- I too have seen the problem and simply hit Retry and it went
    through the second time.

I am not sure if this is the right procedure to ask for help with not be able
to sign into Windows Live Messenger. This is the second time I am having this
problem. The first time all was fixed up but now again today january 6/07, I
am unable to open Windows Live Messenger again. Same problem as before.
Before I decide on reinstalling (or flattening) my computer, I want to know
if there is a possible permenant fix for this. I am not even getting an
error. It just doesn't open up. I have done what is mentioned below to no
avail. Could you please help me or direct me to the right source. Thanks a
    bunch
    P.S. Happy New Year.

I'm getting this error mainly (almost always) when after I wake my computer
up from standby. My solution was to close messenger and restart it, that
always fixed it, BUT here 's a more efficient way that did the trick, in your
sign-in window, click the drop-down box with your email-address and re-select
your identity. No more error81000395 for me.

    have fun,

Hi there, I tried looking for the "MsnMsgr.txt file" to delete, but its not
where you claim it is to be.
    Any suggestions?

  7. Greetings,

The file will only exist if connection logging has been engaged. It can't exist anywhere else
    other than My Received Files.

If you don't mind, start a new thread with specifically what problems and errors you're
seeing as this one's pretty old.

  8. In addition to Jonathan Kay's comment, depending on what version of WLM
you're using you might also find MsnMsgr.txt in:

    (Vista)
    <windows drive letter>:\Users\<your
    username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Messenger

(XP- not so sure about this one since I don't use XP anymore but here's a
"translated guess" from the Vista folder)
    <windows drive letter>:\Documents and Settings\<your username>\Local
    Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Messenger

AVG Anti –Virus 8.0 new update is the culprit for "Windows Live Messenger"
    Error Code: 81000395!!!

I disenabled AVG, Instant Messenger in Web Shield Components and Messenger
    works like a champ now.

    Good Luck!!!

A co-worker and I are experiencing the same thing in the office but doesn't
affect everyone. It is also intermittent in that sometimes I can click
"Retry" and it works fine. We are using McAfee 8.5 here in the office though.
Any thoughts on a simliar issue with McAfee of late, that coincides with the
    AVG fix?

    Hi there

another cause for the error is the newish update to avg anti virus from 7.5
    to 8.0

    To disable the problem

    1. start AVG and select - Tools - Advanced settings...

    2. then open the web shield icon on the left pain and select Instant messaging

    3. finaly untick the msn messanger tick box and click ok

no need to reinstall or uninstall messanger just start it up and sign inas
    normal

messanger should then work - or did for me :)

    good luck
