Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition
Microsoft 802.11b WiFi Network/BaseStation
Cable Modem internet connection with hardware firewall only
ActiveSynch 3.8

1. Normally run AS3.8 via USB; systray AS 3.8 Connections Settings allows
both USB and network (Ethernet) connections
2. PPC can connect to WiFi network for AvantGo and web browsing
3. Can PING 2 networked desktops (hard-wired and wireless connections) via
iPAQ WiFi using Cambridge Computer Corp. vxUtil

Can't figure out how to make WiFi AS3.8 connection and synch, or any other
network connection beyond the PING.

Is there a good step-by-step reference for setting this all up? I've tried
some web references, but there always seems to be something oriented to
prior Windows Mobile editions in them (Connections setup a little
different, etc.)

I've made half-rigorous attempts in the past (e.g., NetBIOS enabled, etc),
but when I attempt to Synch via the button in the PPC ActiveSynch program I
get an 'VPN' error for user name and password, but I don't ever remember
being required to setup a VPN while following the web references.

This is getting to be an annoyance more because it's an instance of needing
to make it work because it CAN be made than needing to make it work because
the USB connection doesn't work and the WiFi HAS to be made.

 

Hi,
With ActiveSync 3.8 you have to enable the network in File - Connection
Settings. Also, you need to be able to ping the desktop by name. If you
can't then try entering the desktop's IP as the WINS server. Finally, the
Wi-Fi connection must be set to Work (not Internet) to sync.
