Often (Perhaps always. I don't try playing these a lot.) when playing AVI
files in Windows Media Player 11, the sound gets ahead of the video. It's
quite an annoyance. I also have this problem on Real Player. I'm using
    Windows XP. Any suggestions?

That doesn't make too much sense... when did this start happening? Is there
a sample clip online that might cause others to have this failure?

This has been happening since I first got the computer maybe a year ago,
using WMP 10. I'd transferred some AVI files from my old computer (on which
they had worked just fine) and found that the sound was out of synch with the
video. After upgrading to WMP 11 and trying out different AVI files, I still
have the same problem. After browsing this site for a bit I found that this
problem is not unique to myself, but I haven't found any solutions. I believe
someone suggested that the video is experiencing a series of extremely short
delays, and as the video keeps playing the delays add up and it falls more
and more behind the audio. Unfortunately, knowing this doesn't help me.

Is there a sample clip online that might cause others to have this failure?
What codecs do the files use?

Does it happen on a mate's box as well?
