Over the last six weeks I've been having problems with chkdsk not running as\nscheduled in the "fix" mode (system restore doesn't go back before the file\nbecame corrupt so this is not an option). Using the "system file check"\nutility I discovered that my autochk.exe file is corrupted and sfc could not\nrepair it. I read the links cited below, but could not locate WAIK,\nwimfltr.inf, or imagex utility on my OS drive or on\nthe Windows Vista DVD, and Vista has no repair utility like all previous\nversions have had, so I'm unable to replace my corrupt autochk.exe file from\nthe DVD and I don't have an XP disk.\n\nI just got off the phone with Dell Support and after three hours of\nattempting fixes, they recommended a complete reformatting the hard drive and\nreinstalling Vista to solve the problem, but I'm not willing to do this right\nnow as it would mean reinstalls of all the other programs and drivers I have\non my computer as well. Does anybody have any ideas how I can fix this\nwithout having to totally reinstall everything? Why can't I just copy the\ngood file from the Vista DVD to my OS?
