    Hi

I have Automatic Updates turned on, and my PC has downloaded some updates.
When it is trying to install the updates, the Installation status is set to
"Initializing installation..." but never gets any further. There is
obviously something that prevents the installation, but I have no idea what.

    Any ideas?

  2. Depending on the updates involved several logs will be
created or appended. Use Search Companion (e.g. if XP)
to find all files which were changed on that day.
Then use View Details and sort by Date Modified to find all
the files which were changed during the period of the update.
Drag files to a Notepad window and find out which ones are
readable. Typically the readable ones will be logs
(e.g. at least some timestamped message entries)
Examine relevant portions which reflect the period
between when the update was started and when it failed.
