    hi,
I use the above driver by default with my win xp home media player (v10)
Updates occur infrequently, however...and indeed they are just updates.
Each time I install an update it totally disables my sound and removes the
driver from the menu under 'sound schemes' in ocntrol panel, I need to use
system restore to reestablish my prior settings, as add/remove (as suggested)
removes the whole driver, not just the update.
What is going on when a hardware vendor (listed as a hardware update)
release this sort of update which is continually (albeit apparently)
flawed...this is quite frustrating, for those of us who wish to us windows
    updates appropriately.

thanks for any comments/ideas to correct?

  2. I've noticed Realtek HDA audio being lost just after Microsoft's Patch
Tuesday on several occasions, and reports of problems with audio-loss
seem to spike after then (although not necessarily tied to that vendor).

I don't know of any remedy.
