I have a .avi file I watched several times on XP with SP 2 .. After I
installed SP3 the .avi file would no longer play the video but will play the
audio. I have a laptop with Vista Home and used WMP and played the .avi file
without any problems.. the audio/video played fine. Has anyone else had this
type of problem or know what can be done to fix it?

    Thanks,
    KF

I ran GSpot v2.70a and there is not a '4CC' box in the video section.. there
is a c,S box and in that box it says codec: XVID name: XviD 1.2SMP and
    underneath 'codec not installed'

what I wonder is what happened to the original codec? as it used to play
    just fine..

so is this Xvid 1.2 SMP codec the codec I need to search for and find? ...
if it is, then many thanks.. strange little contraptions, these
    computers......

    hey Neil.

I download and installed DivX7 and everything works just fine.. I'm guessing
when I installed SP3 the original codec was deleted or overwritten or maybe
just didn't like SP3.. oh, well, life goes on.. thanks for your help and
    pointing us to solutions........
