backing up data onto removable HD issue

    Hi,
    I am trying to do a backup with the windows backup program that comes with
    my version of Vista Home and I would like to backup to a Maxtor removable
    hard drive but the backup program doesn't 'see' the HD. It only gives me
    options to back up to a network drive or my DVD writer.

    How can I get around this?
