I'll have to paraphrase since the message disappears shortly after it is
displayed in one of those notification bubbles:

    "Windows Vista System Error

Windows Vista is unable to connect to the Vista System Event Notification
Service... Please check the Windows Vista System Event Log for an explanation
    why."

The best part is, when I eventually decided to try to open the event viewer,
the operating system decided it was time to shutdown and reboot. Did it ask
me if it could do this? No it simply immediately closed all of my programs,
emitted a message "Logging Off", and rebooted.
