Blank screen but sound is okay

  1. My main hard drive died a while back, and I had to set up windows on the
secondary drive. I was then able to recover most of the data from what was
the primary. One of the things I've been having problems with is my Media
Player and other video players. None of them will play the videos they used
to play, or even streaming videos from web sites. I get no video but the
sound is playing perfectly. There are no error messages, ie "you need a
    codec to play this etc)

    What I've already done.

Reinstalled my video card and drivers
Downloaded and installed the latest version of all players
Downloaded and installed the latest version of Direct X
Downloaded and installed a video codec package for XP (1.3), and another for

Now I'm stumped, and pretty damn PO'd.

The video codec package was a horrible idea, really. Whoever advised you to
do that: Never listen to them again. They're just guessing wildly, and
that's absolutely horrid advice. =) Not to mention probably illegal, since
half of them rip my code off, for starters. =)

Let's get back to the actual issue. You're not seeing video for anything.
That cannot POSSIBLY be a codec problem. (Again: suggestor of "codec
pack"... *rolls eyes*.) It is definitely a video display problem. Have you
tried adjust your video card driver settings?
That would actually be the place to start.
