I would have to agree, actually sounds suspiciously like a DNS issue, a
strange one though, I've had problems in the past where a DNS server (kinda
redundant there) has gone down and I couldn't browse but some IM's and email
    still worked.

    John:
Had this problem on Sunday (XP x64).
Followed your advice (system restore to a prior state) and everything was
    back to normal again.
The only things I had done were uninstalling a game (SpongeBob) and Samsung
    mobile phone programs.
Don't know which one caused the problem or whether there was something else.

I have no idea what is causing the problem, but it is worrisome as it is
counter intuitive. It's too 'big brotherish' where you can't connect to
the outside world, but streaming can continue to be sent into your computer.

I like the "big brother" comparison.
We also have our own local version in Argentina ("Gran Hermano") and even
    the brazilians have their own!
Media is flooded with this big brother thing (nice way to divert people's
attention from the real issues in your country).

Well, the same problem has hit my XP86 system. Haven't used the XP64 system
as there are no drivers for the wireless adapter. Will see if restore works
    when I get time.

Worked again. Wish I knew what was causing these problems.
