I upgraded from Windows NT PDC to Windows AD a couple of weeks back. Try to
install a 2nd domain controller (by dcpromo a Windows 2000 member server) but
failed with "Directory object not found". Investigated error and confirmed
that built-in administrator account missing (confirmed with user2sid and
sid2user). Using ntdsutil, see that deleted object "administrator" remain in
    AD.

Not sure how or when administrator account get deleted. How can I fix this?

  2. Is it in the deleted objects container? If you have Windows Server 2003 then you
can undelete the object using the sysinternals tool to undelete or my admod tool
    with the -undel switch.

Yes, it is still in the deleted container. I am in Windows 2000 AD and not
Windows 2003. Any othe ways to fix this?

  4. You would need to do an auth restore from a backup. You can't undelete in
    Windows 2000.
