I first went to the Windows Media Player downloads section and installed a KB832353-ENU.exe update (dated 04/21/04); it didn't really seem to anything after my system rebooted. I then re-downloaded the newest version of the Series 9 Media Player for XP and it now works. I don't know if it works perfectly yet, but at least it doesn't give me that damned C00D1197 error anymore. Hope that this helps everyone

FYI - I'm running Windows XP Home Edition on a Sony Vaio system with Explorer 6.0 with SP-1 updates.

I just wanted to add that after re-installing the Series 9 Media Player I opened the Media Player, opened Tools, Options, Network tab, and configured all streaming proxy settings to Autodetect.
