C00D1197 - WMP 11 shuffle stops

I have music stored on my local C: and on an attached USB hard drive. My
library includes music from both sources.

I often play music when the USB drive is NOT attached to the computer (so
only the local files are available). In WMP 10, when in shuffle mode, the
player would simply skip over the file it could not find and go to the next
one. WMP 11 actually stops and provides a dialog box with the error...
"Windows Media Player cannot find the file. If you are trying to play, burn,
or sync an item that is in your library, the item might point to a file that
has been moved, renamed, or deleted." (web help led me to C00D1197) I have
to hit Stop, then Play to get it going again.

Since half my music is on the USB drive, this has become very annoying.
Does anyone know how to make WMP 11 simply skip over songs it can't find
    without stopping itself?

    Thanks.
