Is there a way to remove the calendar in WLM? I know how to stop it
appearing but I want to get rid completely. With WIN8 it keeps showing
    entries in the start menu.

I'm not sure that I uderstand your issue. There is a calendat app in Windows 8.
Windows Live Mail has a calendar. If your Microsoft Account used to log into
Windows 8 is the same account that you log into Windows Live Mail and that
account is a Hotmail account, then entries on your calendar in one will be on
the other and also on outlook.com. I'm not sure what you mean by "entries in the
start menu" as there is no start menu in Windows 8.
The short answer is that you cannot remove the calendar from Windows Live Mail.
You can, however, remove the Calendar app from Windows 8.

If you have Windows 8 and WLM installed you have two calendars
    - Windows 8 Calendar tile on the Win8 Modern UI Start Screen is a component of the Windows 8's Mail,/Messaging/People/Calendar
combined app. It can not be removed/uninstalled without uninstalling the entire combo app.
    - Windows Live Mail is desktop (user installed) program that includes an Email client, News client, Contact module, and Calendar
Module. The Calendar module can not be uninstalled without removing the entire WLM program.
