    Hi,

When our Toshiba Qosmio G15’s video went bad recently, the pre-installed
Media Center Edition 2005 (MCE) couldn’t play DVDs. After Toshiba replaced
the system board, MCE still can’t play DVDs; however, other MCE functions
we’ve tested work fine and Media Player has no problem playing the same DVDs.
When we tried to use the Recovery/Applications/Drivers DVD that came with
the machine to reinstall MCE, the DVD couldn’t recognize the new system
board. Toshiba’s tech confirmed that the MCE is no longer compatible with
the new system board and needs to be reinstalled. He suggested Googling for
Windows Media Center downloads and “pick from the list†to download the
program. However, all the downloads we’ve found online are updates/patches,
which we’ve also tried and did not solve the problem.

Aside from calling Toshiba again, any ideas about how we may restore Media
Center Edition 2005 to work fully with the new system board? Thanks.

  2. I doubt that there are any (legal) downloads of MCE available online.

IMHO, this is Toshiba's responsibility. Your computer failed, yet they
only partially restored it to working condition. They should feel a
moral obligation to send you a Recovery disk that will ... wait for it
    .... recover your computer.
