can C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\ be deleted?

    after SP1 installation, about 650mb in files resides in
    C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles in multiple folders

    can it be deleted?

    just a quick note that this is not the same as the 425mb
    \WINDOWS\$ntservicepackuninstall$

    only asking since on a Win2003 Enterprise server, after SP1, I have over
    600mb in
    C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\

    No, it's not safe to delete that directory or anything below it. It's
    maintained by Windows File Protection in case files need to be repaired, and
    is also used if you install additional Windows components in the future (to
    ensure they use SP1 versions of files).

    There's some information in KB article 290402 at
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290402. It was written for Windows 2000, but
    also applies to Windows Server 2003.
