Can I install 64-bit VM on 32-bit OS running on 64-bit CPU?

Discussion in 'Virtual PC' started by EdOfTheMountain, Nov 24, 2008.

  1. I have an AMD 64-bit CPU installed with 32-bit Windows Server 2003. If I
install Virtual PC 2007 on this machine, can I also create Vistax64 VM's on
    it?

Or must I be on a 64-bit host OS in order to run both 32-bit and 64-bit VMs?

    Thank in advance,

    -Ed

  2. Ed:

VPC does not support 64-bit guests on any host (not even 64-bit ones). VMWare
Server (free) or Workstation (not free) will do it.

That is misleading. Hyper-V supports 64-bit guests, but it is certainly
not Virtual PC. No version of Virtual PC does support 64-bit guests,
including VPC 7 for Windows 7 which is in beta.
