Can I use a ISA2004 install (from TechNet Plus subscription) instead of
waiting for the SP1 disc. Or is the ISA install from the SP1 disc special in
    some way?

    Call me impatient ;)

    Simple answer: No.

Search around for the complex answer.

Being impatient on this will cause you a bunch of headaches. You must use
the ISA 2004 that comes on the SP1 CD.
