Can one display the networks in the status bar when they are active?

    Under XP I used to tick the checkbox, for each network, that this
    networks would be shown in the taskbar notification area while
    connected.

    I didn't find this option under Vista. Were has it gone?

    You can show the network icon, if that's what you mean...
    Right-click on the Taskbar, select Properties
    Notification Area
    [x] Network
    ok
