Cannot join WinXP Pro client to AD domain

When I try to join a WinXP Pro SP2 client to our company's AD domain (Win2k
    Mixed mode with 2 DCs - 1 Win2k server and 1 Win2003 Server) I get the
following error: "Your computer could not be joined to the domain because the
following error has occured: The specified server cannot perform the
    requested operation".

The join operation is being done on the client with the Network
Identification Wizard available in System Properties -> Computer Name.

When I look at AD Users and Computers on one of the DCs, I will see an entry
for the computer in question in the "Computers" container, but with that
computer disabled. Enabling it has no effect (the DNS info in its properties
is absent) and deleting the entry and trying again does not help.

This computer was set up by restoring an image of a Sysprep'ed XP
installation. Also, the XP installation was done with an evaluation CD from
our Technet Plus subscription. The computer that was used as the Master
template from which the Sysprep was done was able to join the domain just
    fine.

Any ideas on why we're having this problem and how to fix it?

Please look at the C:\Windows\Debug "netsetup.log" file on the client machine
which is having trouble joning the domain.

It will show better information to troubleshoot the issue.
