Shortly after downloading the new versions of Windows Media Player (11) and
Internet Explorer (7) I haven't been able to play any .wmv files that are
embedded in Web pages. All I get is a red "X" in the upper left-hand corner.
I'm not getting any error messages and WMV and IE are working fine in all
other regards. I thought it might have something to do with codecs so I
downloaded the DivX codec, but that's done nothing. I'm using Windows XP.
    Any suggestions?

Do you have WMP enabled in IE's Tools:Manage Add-ons ?

It looks like I do. I went to Tools -> Manage Add-ons and WMP shows up as
"enabled" under "Add-ons that run without requiring permission."

If it's enabled but not working in IE, does running
    regsvr32 wmp.dll
    fix this up....... ?

There's definitely no good reason for something like this happen... =\
