I am running Vista Ultimate, HP Pavillion laptop. When I attempted to
update Itunes, the installation could not complete. The error message
    I got was:

    Could not open

Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your
    support person.

Just out of curiosity, I pulled up regedit to see what that entry was
and was denied access. I am Administrator on this machine.

I looked for a solution and was told to uninstall Itunes, which I did.
Big mistake, apparently. Because I then could not reinstall it.

I haven't a clue (obviously) what any of this means except that I
cannot install Itunes nor use my Ipod now :-(

Can anyone help me with this?

    Thanks in advance,

This is a correction to my previous post: In the error message, the
last entry in that interminable registry address should be

If I click on that entry, the error message reads: "ProxyStubClsid32
cannot be opened. An error is preventing this key from being opened.
    Details: Access is denied."

If I click on "permissions" the message then reads: "You do not have
permission to view the current permission settings for
ProxyStubClsid32 but you can make permission changes."

I don't want to muck around with the registry unless I have to. Is
there any solution to this problem?

    thanks again,
