Can't install Recovery Console after XP SP2

I've installed SP2 on my IBM Thinkpad X40 (XP Pro OEM). XP has the latest
updates from MS too. Then I've tried to install the Recovery Console using the

    c:\i386\winnt32.exe /cmdcons

command in the Start/Run window. The program stops with the following error

"Setup cannot continue because the version of Windows on your computer is
newer than the version on the CD."

    Which is somehow strange because

    1. I haven't got any Windows XP CDs from IBM
    2. The X40 has no CD/DVD drive at all.

My question is: how can I install the Recovery Console in this situation. I
couldn't find any hints in the Knowledge Base...

  2. No, you cannot install it. You have to use it directly from CD.

    Hi Kara,

This is a common problem. You need to 'slipstream' your existing OEM CD
and create a Windows XP SP2 CD. If you do a Google Search on 'XP
Slipstream' and you should find several web sites with information on
how to do that. You'll need your original CD, the network install
version for XP SP2, a blank CD, and cd-burning software; i.e. Roxio,
    Nero, etc.

This isn't necessary nor is it possible for those users who do
    not have a
Win XP CD (they only have a recovery disk).
The problem is caused by the fact that winnt32.exe is at the
SP1 version in the I386 folder. The user must extract the SP2
    version of this
file from the full SP2 upgrade installer or the SP2 CD upgrade disk.

Once you have the SP2 installer (either because you downloaded it
    from Microsoft
or you have the SP2 upgrade disk) open a command prompt in the
    folder containing the SP2 installer
    and type: WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU.exe -x (substitute
XPSP2.exe -x if you have the disk).
Select a folder to extract the files to e.g. c:/SP2files

Make a backup of the file winnt32.exe in c:\windows\i386. You
    will restore this copy

Replace the winnt32.exe file in c:\windows\i386 with the identically
named file in C:\sp2files\i386 (or in the i386 folder in the
    folder where
    you extracted the files)

Open a command prompt at c:\windows\i386
    Type: winnt32.exe /cmdcons
The Recovery Console will install. Ignore the first error
    message, if you get it.

Replace the winnt32.exe in c:\windows\i386 with the original version.
