Can't play dvd's, no video only sound

My brother has media player 11 and can't play any dvd's. He gets no picture
only sound. They play via other players like media player classic (it's
amazing that an old product works.) and works with another program (i can't
recall the name) I downloaded klite codecs and still didn't work. First we
got the error no dvd decoder installed so we bought nvidea platinum and then
it still would not played. I downloaded a tool from microsoft to make sure
the decoder was intalled and it was. I then tried several additional codecs
and divx, reinstalled x whatever can't think it's name and still no good.
Tried downgrading to media player 10 same problem. Alot of people on the web
complaing about this. Any ideas?

Same problem, no picture only sound after install of DVD Decoder as
recommend by Microsoft.
