can't remove HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run it

I am wondering if SBS2003 may be causing my problem? I first noticed my
problem when I tried to configure MusicMatch to not load the QuickPlay icon.
I first tried this through the MM application itself, but it kept coming
back. Next I tried by removing the registry value for MM in
    HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run. But it keeps coming
back. After giving up on MM, I moved on to my next task which was removing
McAfee and rolling out Trend's C/S/M suite for SMB. After pushing out
OfficeScan to a test group of three PCs I realized that the OfficeScan system
tray icon was not present but all the services and processes were running.
Numerous reboots did not load the system tray icon. So, I checked the
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run key and sure enough there
is no entry for OfficeScanNT Monitor. I also noticed that there were still 4
entries for McAfee. So obviously that registry folder is not allowing edits.
Any ideas? Could SBS be controlling this registry folder? I know I didn't
configure anything specifically to do this.

  2. Hi Robert,

What the heck is an application like MusicMatch doing on your server???

Did you reboot after removing McAfee?

  3. On the one SBS network that I installed where McAfee antivirus was
installed, I had a bear of a time getting rid of McAfee. It required manual
registry pruning and file and folder deletes on every workstation.

Until that was done, Officescan wouldn't work correctly. I hope I never see
    a McAfee product again.

I found the manual removal instructions on the McAfee site.

My bad, I didn't explain this correctly. The problem with the registry is on
a client workstation (Dell). Also, I solved the problem. Spy Sweeper
Enterprise "locks down" the registry folder
    HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run. That is what was
stopping me from removing the applications like MusicMatch, QuickTime, etc...
It also prevented the McAfee install from removing the 4 McAfee entries in
the HKLM\....\Run folder. And of course it prevented OfficeScan install from
writing an entry to the Run folder. I know Ad-aware does this "lock down"
also, but not sure about other Spyware solutions, but it is something to keep
    in mind.

    Thanks for the replies.
