Some email providers object to the order in which Windows Mail does
a combined send and receive. You can make this likely to happen by
clicking on Tools, then Options, then Send. Click on the box before
Send messages immediately, then Apply. If this does not leave a check
mark in the box, do it again. Click OK.

Also, it sometimes helps to click on Tools, then Accounts. Do this
for each email account you have: Click on the account, then
Properties. If there is no check mark in the box before Include
this account when receiving mail or synchronizing, click on this box,
then Apply. Click on OK, then go to the next email account if
there is one. After the last email account, click on Close.

  3. Which antivirus are you using? Some of them cause various
    problems with Windows Mail.

  8. AVG can cause problems if it was installed using the default install option.
Uninstall it, then reinstall using the custom install option, which allows
you to forego installation of the mail scanning module.

If this does not fix the problem, I suggest upgrading to WLM:

I had the same problem and I found this solution which worked for me and
which was posted by Zachary on 12/18/2007 at 9.58pm PST:
The deleted Account returns when you restart Windows Mail but the problem
    has gone!!:

I figured it out! It's the "Microsoft Communities" folder at the bottom!!!

When it downloads your e-mails it's also trying to download postings into
the Microsoft Communities folder, but if you don't have that set up then it
won't be able to. And so there's an error message, but it doesn't know how to
    tell you what's wrong.

The solution is simple, click on "Microsoft Communities" with your right
mouse button and select "Remove Account". Confirm that you want to remove the
account and the problem is solved!

hi- when i click send/receive i get this msg. pls help

The message could not be sent. The authentication setting might not be
correct for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server. For help solving this
problem, go to Help, search for "Troubleshoot Windows Mail", and read the
"I'm having problems sending e-mail" section. If you need help determining
the proper server settings, please contact your e-mail service provider.

The rejected e-mail address was ''. Subject 'Emailing:
    212', Account: 'mail.comcast.net', Server: 'smtp.comcast.net', Protocol:
SMTP, Server Response: '550 5.1.0 Authentication required', Port: 25,

  12. Are you connected to Comcast as your ISP when this happens?

Go to "Microsoft Communities" properties and enter a valid email address in
the proper field. Deselect the "include this account when checking for new
messages" (unless that's something that you want to do) and you should be OK.
(Or just delete the Microsoft Communitoes account completely.)

I deleted Microsoft Communities as suggested but this has not cured th
problem for some reason. I have also noticed something else. If I clic
'send & receive' when there is nothing in the Outbox, the message come
up, 'connecting to the server' and it behaves much as I would expect
However, if I compose a message and send it to the Outbox by clickin
'send' on the message, then click 'send & receive', nothing happens.
The message does not get sent and there is no message about connectin
    to the server

To make it try to send the message sooner, click on Tools, then Options,
then Send. If there is no check mark in the box before Send messages
immediately, click on this box, then Apply. Click on OK.

Number: 0x80004005. My ISP is SBCGLOBAL.net I just updated to SP 1 on
