Can't upgrade vista home to sp1/sp2

  1. Trying to help out a friend's son who was having issues with his pc. Got
all the viruses and trojans off. Now it seems that he never did a windows
update since he had gotten the pc. The windows update site not longer will
allow you to upgrade for vista hope with no service packs. I down loaded
the standalone Vista x86 sp1 and it will not install.

I ran the Check Sytem Rediness and it cleaned up every error except for
    these

The PackageDetect and Packages hive does not exist in the registry and I
can't figure out how to add them (permission error)

    Any help would be appreciated.

    TIA

  2. Barry Shapiro, thou weed. Ye are a shrill-gorged degenerate, a
money-grabbing glass-gazer, an ugly base foul stone falsely set, a
loathed wrinkled witch, a fiend like thee might bear my soul to hell.
    Ye incited:
    Format and reinstall.
