Change migrated server print queues in Desktops automatically

Discussion in 'Scripting' started by Ramon Jiménez, Sep 5, 2003.

  1. Please,

I am trying to find a method to automate the following:

Printers in the company are defined manually in the more than 3000 desktops. Printers are
beeing migrated from NT 4.0 to Windows 2000.

What I would like to do is to implement a Logon script that, based on a Text file where
there is a mapping between old print queues and migrated queues, change desktop printers
connections by the new migrated printers.

    i.e.
    Desktop A with
    PrinterA \\server1\queue1
    PrinterB \\server2\queue1

If customer migrate Server 1 to server Server x with queue name equal the mapping should
    be
    \\server1\queue1 \\serverx\queue1

The logon srcipt should loop through all local printers an see if the server connnections
have been migrated based on the mapping text file. Then change all references to old
    server/queues by new server/queues...

For time reasons I cannot do it by myself dedicatig Full time, anyone could help me??
    Other ideas would be welcomed...
