does anyone know where and how to change the default settings/value for
userAccountControl and pwdLastSet in a Windows 2003 Active Directory?

What I was thinking of was to change the default values. We use a program
called WebDIR ( in which you can create
users in an AD, but those users are created with the wrong settings
(disabled and the user is not required to change password on next logon).
The same happens when we create a user with AD-API (Interop.ActiveDs.dll)
when we choose to use the default settings.

Any ideas where and how to change the default values?

  4. If you are doing .NET code, I'd recommend you start a new thread on this in
the microsoft.public.adsi.general group and post the code you are using. We
should be able to get you going quickly.

Generally, the steps are to create the user and commit changes, then set the
password to comply with policy (if enabled), then set userAccountControl to
be the correct settings to enable the user. There is also a sample of this
in the System.DirectoryServices SDK in MSDN.
