chkdsk keeps fails and keeps fixing the same error

Discussion in 'Windows Vista File Management' started by Michael Tissington, May 27, 2007.

  1. I'm running chkdsk on Vista at boot time.

It reports a couple of errors with two files (itprobasic.h1s and
    comctl32.dll.mui)
Chkdsk goes through the motions of fixing the index but each time I run
chkdsk I get the same error.

Any ideas how to fix this please ?

  2. Hi, Michael.

Have you scanned your system for viruses or other malware? Recently?

Google finds nothing for "itprobasic" except a couple of sites written in
German, both referencing sites for HiJackThis, a malware-scanning tool.
Comctl32.dll is a legitimate part of Vista, but the .mui extension has been
added on by something, perhaps a rogue program of some kind.

All this may be symptomatic of bigger problems in your computer. If you
need instructions for scanning your system, please post back.
