Client computers do not appear in the WSUS console

Discussion in 'Update Services' started by Client computers do not appear in the WS, Nov 6, 2005.

  1. I have new 10 PCs, I have installed Windows XP with SP2 on one of them and
before joining it to the domain I cloned its hard disk using Norton
PartitionMagic to the other 9 hard disks.
Then I joined each computer to the domain (there is a GPO that point them to
    WSUS server).

I noticed that ONLY ONE computer of those 10 computers can appear in the
WSUS console and the remainder 9 computers are missing, and when the policy
force detecting the WSUS (according to GPO interval) the last computer
detects the WSUS is the last computer appears in the WSUS console.

In other words that WSUS server is treating the 10 computers as ONE computer
    but with 10 names!!

So, why is the problem appearing only when clonning the hardidks??

  2. Yep.. you failed to properly use sysprep prior to cloning the machines. :-(

Sadly, a common error -- much more common that it ought to be.
