Client reporting, but status incorrect...

I have a client who reports every night, but the status reads on the server
as "Reboot required." The client has been rebooted several times since the
updates installed. I have tried recreating the Windows Update folder and
forcing status updates.

What you're reading on the server may not be meshing with where the client
is reporting it's status.

Currently the client thinks it is not assigned to a target group:

But it's definitely reporting.

Are you using server-side targeting, or client-side targeting?

If server-side targeting, run 'wuauclt /resetauthorization /detectnow' at
the client and wait 30 minutes for the detection/reporting cycle to
complete, and check the WSUS server again.

If client-side targeting, verify that the target group on the server matches
the target group assigned via policy, and that the policy is being applied
to the client. (RSOP, GPRESULT, or a manual inspection of
HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate will accomplish
this.) Then run 'wuauclt /resetauthorization /detectnow' at the client and
wait 30 minutes for the detection/reporting cycle to complete, and check the
WSUS server again.

If the client still does not show up, then please do this so I can help
further:
(a) Export the registry key at
HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate, and post here.
(b) Post entries from the %windir%\WindowsUpdate.log for the detection
cycle that was ran in the above attempt.

We use Server Side Targeting. I tried the switch and it did not work. Here is

I was unsure if you wanted the reg file if we did Server side targeting, so
here it is. There was no WindowsUpdate reg file at the path you specified,
but I found one in Current Version.

The client system is not finding any updates because it does not know what
target group to look at. As a result, it's checking in "Unassigned
Computers" for approvals.

If you're using Server-Side targeting, then you need to confirm that this
particular client appears in the target group you want it in on the WSUS
server, then run 'wuauclt /resetauthorization /detectnow' on this client,
and wait 30 minutes.

Check the WindowsUpdate.log again, look for the "Initializing simple
targeting cookie" entry, and determine if the client has identified its
assigned target group.

Also, make sure that the client is not trying to use CLIENT-side targeting.
The policy should have client-side targeting DISABLED and/or the registry
value set to dword:0x0 or absent in the
HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate key.
