Hi All, I'm testing out trying to get target groups working.
On my WSUS server I have two groups, "Workstations" and "Servers"
and have been able to manually move clients into the correct one.

I am now trying to have a server client put itself into the correct one when
it checks in with the WSUS server.

Although I have specified TargetGroup="Servers" and

The machine is ending up in the unassigned computers group

Can anyone suggest how what I've done worng and how to remedy

    Thanks in advance

heres a copy of the script I'm using

    SET tmpfile=%temp%\%random%.reg

    ECHO Stopping Automatic Updates
    NET STOP "wuauserv" >NUL

ECHO Creating the temporary registry file: %tmpfile%
ECHO Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 > %tmpfile%
    ECHO. >> %tmpfile%
    ECHO [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\]ECHO "WUServer"="http://highfield-sus:8530" >> %tmpfile%
    ECHO "WUStatusServer"="http://highfield-sus:8530" >> %tmpfile%
    ECHO "TargetGroup"="Servers" >> %tmpfile%
    ECHO "TargetGroupEnabled"=dword:00000001 >> %tmpfile%
    ECHO. >> %tmpfile%
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU\] >>
    ECHO "AUOptions"=dword:00000004 >> %tmpfile%
    ECHO "NoAutoRebootWithLoggedOnUsers"=dword:00000000 >> %tmpfile%
    ECHO "NoAutoUpdate"=dword:00000000 >> %tmpfile%
    ECHO "RescheduleWaitTime"=dword:00000005 >> %tmpfile%
    ECHO "ScheduledInstallDay"=dword:00000002 >> %tmpfile%
    ECHO "ScheduledInstallTime"=dword:00000006 >> %tmpfile%
    ECHO "UseWUServer"=dword:00000001 >> %tmpfile%

    ECHO Applying the registry settings
    regedit /s %tmpfile%

ECHO Deleting the temporary registry file: %tmpfile%
    del %tmpfile% >NUL

    ECHO Starting Automatic Updates
    NET START "wuauserv" >NUL

  2. Hi,

You will need to enable client side targeting on the WSUS server
    as well.

In the WSUS admin console, click on Options.

    Then click "Computers Options".

Then select "Use Group Policy or registry settings on computers"

    Then click "Save settings"
