Hmm. Don't know if I can help, but I move files from one computer to
    another via usb drive.
I needed to establish a shared folder to make it work.
I then noticed that I could move my pointer from host to vpc and back
    without right+alt after that.

    Hi,

This is an annoyance that I run into constantly with VPC 2007. You
might google something like "virtual pc clipboard problem". There are a
number of workarounds that sometimes work for me, and sometime not (I
haven't found one that works 100% of the time, except for shutting down
the guest and then starting it again).

    I fixed this

If you restart the service "Virtual Machine Additions Services Application" you will be able to resume copy/pasting.

I plan on writing a bat file that will do this as it is a common occurance.

I faced the same problem and always work around it by stopping and restarting the Virtual Machine Additions service.
