I am not able to download codecs while using WMP6.4
version players. WMP6.4 used to do this automatically. I
am certain the files I am using are valid and did play on
WMP6.4 before. The reason appears to be because the site
    codecs.microsoft.com (207.46.196.120) is down.

I am able to download codecs using WMP7.00.00.1956. I
think WMP7 is downloading the codec from
    activex.microsoft.com (207.46.196.108).

    1. Should older players like WMP6.4 still be able to
    automatically download codecs?
    2. How should WMP6.4 and earlier players download new
codecs? (especially for users on WinNT that can't install
    IE or WMP7 or above)
    3. Is the automatic download of codecs to older players
like WMP6.4 going to be supported? and for how long?
