    Hi,

Can Windows 2003 SP1 DCs coexist with Win 2003 R2 DCs on the same network?

We have now windows 2003 SP1 DCs throughout our organization (local and
remote). I am planning the upgrade to R2 so I can use the DFS improvements.
I am planning to upgrade only couple of DCs first for testing purposes - I
don't know if the new R2 DCs will sync OK with the old Win2003 SP1 DCs.

    Now, here is another question:

Does the upgrade to R2 change the forest schema?
If that's the case, I guess all the DCs have to be upgraded to R2, isn't it?

    Thanks,
    Sorin

  4. yes they can co-exist
yes the schema needs to be upgraded, but only when using certain R2
functionalities like UnixIDm, DFS-R, distributing printer connections with
    GPOs

you only need to load the R2 binaries on the server where the
functionalities will be used. there is no need to load R2 onto the DCs if
you will not use any of the new R2 functionalities on the DCs
