    Hi All,
    I have SBS2003 with 20 users who have been changing their home page.
    My boss wants it so each time they login the home page defaults back to the
    Company web page.
    Is it possible to run some kind of script to do this or can I reset the home
    page and lock it off so it cant be changed if so how can I do that
    effectively.
    Cheers, David

  2. There are group policies to control IE. You can assign the homepage this
    way. That should be enough to help you find technet articles, etc. :)

    Thanks Cliff,
    I should explain I am fairly new to SBS.
    I have done as instructed and found this from Robin Meng.
    I must be stupid because I cant find the GPO for IE though, where should I
    be looking?
    Cheers, David

    Use Administrative Template to configure IE homepages:
    ========================
    1. Open the GPO where IE maintenance policy is configured, remove the
    homepage URL from the ?Important URLs? under IE maintenance entry to
    avoid further conflicts.
    2. Expand to: User Configuration->Administrative Templates->Windows
    Components->Internet Explorer
    3. On the right pane, double click ?Disable changing home page
    settings?, select Enabled to take affect.

    So, you can use Lanwench's suggestion to first configure Internet
    Explorer Maintenance URL GPO to set the HomePage to Companyweb, then
    use the "Disable changing home page settings" to lock your HomePage.

    Hope this helps. Also, if you have any questions or concerns, please
    do not hesitate to let me know.

    Thanks for your earlier feedback!

  4. This is not SBS specific, and learning how to work with group policies is a
    skillset you'll use time and time again as you become more experienced.

    1) To see existing settings, use the "Group Policy Management Console" (GPMC
    for short.) It has two wizards that you can use to view actual group policy
    results OR simulate what they would be. Very handy for viewing any and all
    settings. You can see if any conflicts will arise using the GPResults
    wizard.

    2) For your new IE settings, I strongly recommend creating a *new* GPO, not
    finding and editing an existing one. This makes undoing changes easier
    since you created the policy specifically for this task. Editing existing
    GPO's makes reverting to a "default" configuratoin, if such a need arises,
    very very difficult.

    Hope that helps, and good luck.

  5. Hello,

    Thank you for posting here.

    According to your description, I understand that:

    You want to know how to customize the homepage on the SBS clients through
    GPO.

    If I have misunderstood the problem, please don't hesitate to let me know.

    Suggestions:
    ====================
    To customize the homepage through GPO:

    1. You may create a new GPO and link it to the domain.
    2. Expand the setting in User Configuration--->Windows Settings--->Internet
    Explorer Maintenance .
    3. Then double click the Important URLs to open the dialog.
    4. Select the option "customize home page URL" and input the URL of the SBS
    company.
    5. On the SBS clients, you should run "gpupdate /force" to refresh the
    applied group policies to check how it works.

    Customize Important URLs

    Hope it helps. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not
    hesitate to let me know.

    Thanks Miles that worked a treat.
    All users now have company web as default home page.
    Home page is ghosted out when they try to change it.
    Job done.
    Cheers, Dave
