When I set YouTube to Compatibility View, it breaks YouTube's Channel's
options, "Uploads Favorites Playlists" appear below the main header, rather
than next to it (to the right), but video listings and searches display the
"HD" logo correctly. However, when I set YouTube to standards Mode, the
Channel settings pane is displayed properly, next to the main heading, but
the "HD" logo next to video listings and searches appears hidden, only
    showing the top part.

    Hi Sterling,

Don't use the Compatibility View button to make the page look worse.

The purpose of the button is to allow you to change the rendering mode of
IE8 IF the page looks wrong. If it looks ok when you load it (and you other
Compatibility settings are correct) don't press the compatibility view.

On Tools>Compatibility View Settings, you should have "Include updated
website lists from Microsoft" checked. This list does not include
youtube.com, meaning that the site is using web standards and is designed to
    work in IE8's standards mode.

To find out what 'Mode' IE8 is using when you visit a site, press F12 to
display the Developer Tool and observer the value on the Browser Mode menu.

Generally speaking, you (a normal user, not a web developer) should never
have to use the compatibility View button to 'fix' web pages. IE is designed
    to 'fix' it automatically.

    Regards.

    Hi rob,

I checked and IE8 is set to receive updated list from Microsoft. YouTube is
    set to IE8 Standards.

I have had instances when IE8 reloads and that tooltip says that it's now in
Compatibility Mode, though YouTube hasn't been one of those sites and aside
from the "HD" logo (next to a video's title when you do a search), the site
displays normally. Yahoo! Mail also displays the CompatView button but I
haven't enabled it nor IE8 automatically does it for me.

    Thanks for the info rob!

    Happy New Year!

    Hi,

    YW.

Microsoft concentrated on the most popular global and regional web sites
during IE8's testing and development. Great efforts were made to get the
Developers of these sites to correct their mistakes and comply to web design
standards. The Compatibility View button is just there to correct the less
popular sites you visit that have not yet been crafted to standards.....
more of a Lazy (or poor) Web Developer's get out of jail free card than a
    practical end user tool.

    Regards.

Yeah I think the problem is on YouTube's end because this new display glitch
started recently when YouTube changed (yet again). I had been getting the
CompatView button, but only turned it "On" when I saw that the "HD" logo was
missing much of the lowe half, which fixed it, but then broke the Channel's
    options.

PS BTW, the "Uploads," "Favorites," and "Playlists" options only appear
below the main header on my Channel. On other Channels, said options appear
    in their proper place.
