    Hi

Looking for guidance/advice etc on condensing our two domains and three
servers into one domain and two servers. Trying to reconcile my two most
cherished rules to live by - keep it simple stupid and if it ain't broke
    don't fix it.

server 1 win2kserver PDC exchange server domain aaa.com (8 years old)
server 2 win2003 server BDC file server domain aaa.com (9 MONTHS old)
server 3 win2K server PDC file server print server domain aaa_main.com (5
    years old)

I'd like to eliminate server 1 and domain aaa_main.com

what mayhem do I unleash by joining server 3 to domain aaa.com? if I could
do that without too much difficulty I could move exchange to server 3,
promote server 2 to PDC and demote server 1 and retire it.

    any or all advice welcomed.

(btw this is a a 20 person network!)

    Thanks

  2. Jeff,

Please remember in the Windows 2000/2003 world, the terms PDC & BDC mean
nothing. All DC's are the same in these environments for the most part.

DCPROMO is your friend. Just make darn sure you don't need ANYTHING on the
domain aaa_main.com, else you are going to be in trouble.

If you need the data, files etc. set up a Forest Trust and move/migrate what
you need to before killing of the domain.

Once the box has been demoted to a stand alone box, you can easily add it to
    the new domain.
