Confusion with i8042prt and PS2 mouse and keyboard

  1. Hi all,

I would appreciate some guidance here: I was examining
the driver list of a laptop and realized \Device\PointerClass
and \Device\KeyboardClass devices are not attached to
any device object managed by the i8042prt driver...
so I thought, hm... must be because they are not
PS2 devices. Then I moved on to another laptop that has
no PS2 ports either (only USB)
and saw that its \Device\PointerClass does attach on
top of i8042prt... I am confused.

Shouldn't all pointing device rely on i8042prt to
receive data? If not, how does it work? How do
I go about finding out what device object/driver
    object it gets data from?

    Thanks, any information appreciated.
