Hello, and thank you in advance for reading and for your help.

For our Windows 2000 SP4 and Windows 2003 SP1 servers (all that we have),
the Legato (7.3) backup logs state that various ".bin" files within
"c:\winnt\SoftwareDistribution\EventCache" cannot be backed up because the
files are being used by another process.

This folder is used WSUS, Windows Update, Microsoft Update, and the
Automatic Updates service. The worst consquence I have seen in KB articles
for deleting or renaming this folder is that the history of updates seen by
    the user is lost.

Does anyone know of any other consequences of deleting or renaming this
folder? I ask because on our Legato backups, we are getting a great deal of
clutter in the logs due to warnings about the inability to backup files in
the the above folder. I would like to setup the backups to ignore the above
files, to eliminate the warnings and so that Legato logs the backups as
successful rather than failed or successful with warnings.

Can't you mark the folder in Legato to exclude it from the backup?

    Hi Anthony -

That's what I'm planning on doing. I just want to know whether or not I
would lose something critical in the backups if I did so. It doesn't look
like it would be a problem; just wanted to see if anyone knew otherwise.
